The Top Questions I Would Ask Myself If I Were Starting A New Photography Business Today
This is a similar question I asked myself back in 2009 when I bought my first rebel camera. It was more along the lines of, “Give me 6 months with this photography thing and I will see what I can do”… Fast forward to 16 years later… The answer is ABSOLUTELY YES! You can turn your photography passion into a career and you can be really fulfilled and successful too!
A few things that I’ve done since 2009:
- Photographed 1000’s of family’s
- Photographed over 700 weddings and elopements
- Trained multiple photographers who became wedding photographers
- Created an associate team of 25+ Photographers long before anyone knew what that was
- Expanded from South Florida in 2014 to New York, All of New England, New Jersey, California.
- Co-Owned + created a Multi-Million Dollar Wedding Venue in The Catskills – Stonewall Estate
- Expanded again in 2021 to Colorado, Arizona, Utah, California + Beyond
- Started completely Fresh in 2021 (after having Thompson Photography Group since 2009 ) with The Mindful Photography Brands – Mindful Photography Collective including Mindful Family Photography, Mindful Weddings and Elopements Photo + Video, Mindful Branding Photo + Video, The Mindful Bride Tribe, + Mindful Photography Edu!

Here are a few standout questions that I would ask myself if I was beginning my photography journey. And then you can adjust and refine along the way.
What am I passionate about? What do I Love to take photos of?
What am I feeling resistant to photographing? ( There is a reason for this question )
What lights My Soul on fire?
When I imagine myself as a _________ Photographer – What does that look like? Who am I? What types of people am I photographing? or is it events or animals? What can I see so clearly when I imagine myself as a photographer?
The most important thing – the way I see it, is that You BELIEVE In Yourself. See Yourself doing / creating what You are dreaming of. If You KNOW you can do it, see yourself, imagine yourself DOING IT, then You can and You will. You probably already are doing it… Please be kind to You and remember that You deserve the credit.
